History of Broadlands
Broadlands is a census-designated place and master-planned community in eastern Loudoun County, situated between Ashburn and Brambleton. Development of the modern community began during a period of significant growth in Loudoun County and Northern Virginia. The Broadlands Association was incorporated in 1995 and eventually transitioned to homeowner control in 2009. Today, the community contains single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums, apartments, recreational facilities, schools, and extensive preserved natural areas.
Nature played an important role in the community’s development. Broadlands was planned around Stream Valley Park, which encompasses more than 150 acres and includes wetlands, wooded areas, trails, and wildlife habitat. The community also provides numerous playgrounds, pools, tennis courts, and miles of trails. Broadlands’ location near the Dulles Greenway helped connect the growing residential community with employment centers around Washington Dulles International Airport and the rest of Northern Virginia. Broadlands is now bordered by Ashburn to the northeast and Brambleton to the south.
